Your timing belt is the heart of your engine – they allow the cam and crankshafts to work together and if they fail it can cause extensive damage and mean a hefty repair bill.

Timing Belt Facts

A timing belt (cambelt) is a rubber belt, which like most components deteriorates through wear, it's a major component and neglecting it could result in you needing a new engine.

A cambelt (timing) failure could result in fatal engine damage leaving you with a hefty bill, whereas the cost of replacing a new belt would be considerably less. – You can read more detail on our blog post on “Cambelt Replacement Intervals”.

You should have a cam belt changed at around 60,000/80,000 miles or 4/5 years, your service manual will tell you the correct mileage for your vehicle or give us a call or email.

If you don’t replace a worn belt there is a very serious threat that it might snap without any warning and cause severe damage to your engine.

A cam belt change is not just changing the belt but any additional tensioners and idlers which make up your kit i.e. relay rollers, studs and a tensioning damper..

If your cam belt runs around the water pump it is always good practice to replace the water pump at the same time at a minimal cost for labour plus the price of a water pump and replenishment of anti-freeze.
