We carried out some German specialist pricing research recently, regarding the specification and costs of oil which garages are using when servicing vehicles.

To our amazement, the majority of garages use only 2 or 3 engine oil specifications.

Motor oil is often referred to as the lifeblood of our vehicles. It performs many important functions.

The purpose of engine oil is to keep the internal parts of your car’s engine lubricated and cool. It keeps the moving parts from grinding against each other causing wear and damage.

• It acts as a lubricant for the engine parts.
• It helps protect the emission system.
• It provides enhanced fuel economy.

Then there are additives, such as detergents to keep the high-temperature surfaces clean and antioxidants that prevent oxidation and keep the engine oil from thickening. Additives also capture dirt and other contaminants to prevent build up on engine parts.

Not all engines are the same, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that oils aren’t the same either. The specification is another way that engine oils differ. Car manufacturers and oil companies work together to agree performance specifications for engine oils. There are several different sets of standards around the world.

Autotecnic stock 8 different engine lubricants in line with the German car specifications.

We only use Fuchs, Liqui Moly & Mobil 1 (Mercedes AMG Spec) lubricants.

Fuchs-oil
Liqui-Moly

Why? because this is what is used on the production line in the factory when building your car.

The Manufacturers have carried out all their Quality control on the specs of oil prior to fitting this to your car.

It is important to ensure the correct oil is used to increase engine longevity. Lubricating the moving components with the quality oil it deserves and the customer deserves.

It may be slightly higher in cost, but would you drink cheap wine or beer?

Your car deserves it!
