This repair was a low mileage, 2009 Audi A3.
It was booked in with the drivers window and door lock inoperative. The customer advised us that the up and down window switch would not work. Then a week or two after the car would not open or lock using the key fob.
Our Technician carried out a diagnosis evaluation using the VAS 5051B system which identified a wiring communication fault within the drivers area. To access the electrics he removed the drivers door card. Multi meter in hand he soon traced the fault to broken wires in the main harness that feed the electrical components to the drivers door.
The wiring harness runs directly through the “A” pillar into the door side near the hinges.
There is a wiring repair harness for this specific repair which was on back order from Germany. The customer did not want to wait up to 10 days to obtain the replacement wiring harness. So the Technician decided to make good the original harness using the correct repair procedures.
On completion the Technician operated the mechanisms numerous times to check functionality then cleared the primary fault codes.
The customer was delighted that she could collect her car.
